We passed local fisherman while boarding our Pegasus Cruise from the Argolic Gulf at Tolo to Hydra.


The town is built around the harbor.


Hydra played an important role in the War of Independence (1821).  A key figure was Andreas Miaoulis, an  admiral in the Greek navy.  In addition to leading the fire ships against the Ottoman fleet, legend has it that he could hold his breath longer than any other Greek and would use this ability to sabotage ships from below.


The terrain in Hydra is rocky.  Donkeys and mules are commonly used to carry goods up and down the hillsides.  These happy helpers belong to and older woman who was doing some grocery shopping.


Here is an answer to the question probably pops into everyone's mind when thinking about Greece - yes, there are  Disney fans here too.
